If national TV ads are to be taken literally, motorists across America are waking up in a couple of weeks to find luxury cars wrapped with a bow in their driveways, or with Santa leading a cohort of SUVs, performance sedans and sports coupes down snowy streets.

Maybe it doesn't happen quite that way, but the holiday season can be a prime time to buy a new car as dealerships offer enticing incentives.

At the same time, shoppers may want to find more modest but no less smile-inducing gifts for auto enthusiasts priced well below five figures.

Here are a few places online to find one-of-a-kind presents without – in most cases – busting your wallet, including:

Hemmings, the noted publisher and vintage and specialty car magazines, rolled out its 2017 Holiday Gift Guide subtitled “gift ideas for the car nut in your life.” Consider the “car capsule,” priced at $1,495. CarCapsule USA promises “no more dents, dings, dust or mildew” from its protective PVC barrier providing continuous airflow. “Don't roll a cover onto your vehicle; instead roll your vehicle into the cover," the company says. For a more frugal gift, there are custom historic license plates starting at $95, and Greenlight collectibles "Run, Forrest, Run!" 1:43 scale 1951 Ford F-1 pickup diecast for $16.95, described as "an affordable and well-made tribute to the pickup that set Forrest Gump to running (he never stopped) in one of the most the unforgettable scenes from the classic movie." For more, visit www.hemmings.com/offers.

Bed, Bath & Beyond, not the type of place that instantly comes to mind for car presents, offers an array of gifts for the car or automotive-bedecked garage. There's Whitewall Products 12-inch racing wheel garage "or man cave" personalized plaque for $69.99 and NFL rubber car mats from $23.99-$35.99. Or try the Busted Knuckle Garage key rack for $24.99. Visit www.bedbathandbeyond.com.

Then there's Hagerty classic car and auto insurance company's light-hearted list based on types of car guys, including their favorite country for autos (i.e. British car lover). Check it out at www.hagerty.com.
