Parents magazine revealed their list of the 10 Best Family Cars for 2017, which will appear in the magazine’s July issue. Reviewers took a look at hundreds of cars and were drawn to those with increased cargo space, infotainment options and safety features like surround-view cameras, automated emergency braking and lane- and road-departure warning systems.

“It’s so important that families feel safe and comfortable while on the road as well as confident in the price they paid for the car’s features,” says Liz Vaccariello, Parents magazine Editor-in-Chief. “Between school drop-offs, playdate pickups, sports-practice shuttling and carpools, we spend so much time in our family vehicles. This year’s top picks highlight features that support the needs of Mom and Dad, and also kid passengers of all sizes – from our newborns to our preteens.”

The best eco-friendly car was the Chevrolet Bolt EV ($29,995, after $7,500 federal tax credit). Reviewers noted that the all-electric vehicle can travel up to 238 miles on a single charge while providing a Wi-Fi hotspot for passengers.

The best budget vehicle was the Kia Soul ($16,100). Despite the low price, this car was noted for it’s large cargo capacity and top-notch audio system.

For best hatchback, the researchers highlighted the Subaru Crosstrek ($21,695). This all-wheel-drive vehicle can be upgraded with adaptive cruise control and pre-collision braking for easy (and safe) road tripping.

Those looking for a small sedan should consider the Hyundai Sonata ($21,950). Parents magazine noted that the car’s spacious backseat can hold three teens comfortably.

The best midsize crossover was a tie between the Mazda CX-5 ($24,045) and the Honda CR-V ($24,045). The CX-5 gets high marks for its 7-inch infotainment touchscreen and safety upgrade packages, while the CR-V has been redesigned this year to add more storage options.

Station wagon lovers can stick with the Subaru Outback ($25,645). This perennial list topper has added some luxury elements like touchscreen controls and plush seating options, as well as an option for automatic reverse braking.

The best minivan was the Chrysler Pacifica ($28,595). Offering seating for eight, this family cruiser features active noise cancellation to create a quiet interior.

For the best SUV, parents can choose the Toyota Highlander ($30,630). In addition to its V6 engine, the SUV includes safety options that include a collision-avoidance system and pedestrian detection.
